MEET THE MIDWIFE

Michaela (Mikki) Bell has really been preparing for this gifting her whole life. She jokes, "The first birth client I ever had was a momma sheep out on our family friend's farm in Colorado when I was 9 years old. That was the first birth I ever participated in and since then, I've been so enthralled with birth in every form."
 

Mikki's real journey to becoming a midwife began with the birth of her firstborn, Jensen. She states that having a home birth herself, changed her whole perception about what birth (and the care surrounding this important time) could truly be like and what the human body is capable of.

She respects birth as a natural process that is designed to work. She also honors the wisdom of midwifery care to promote health in a holistic way as well as to use lifesaving medications and techniques in birth when rare complications arise. As shown in evidenced based literature, she recognizes that for low-risk birth clients, birthing at home with a trained midwife is as safe or safer than birthing in a hospital in the US (Dahlen, 2019).

With more than a decade working in the birth field both as a doula and student midwife, Mikki has been able to work with parents in all types of birth settings: deliveries with OB's and midwives in the hospital, in birth centers, and with midwives at home births. She has worked with parents of twins, singletons, and for IVF and VBAC families.

After such a wide variety of experiences, Mikki felt a strong draw toward midwifery care and has now graduated from studying midwifery at Midwives College of Utah and from her apprenticeship with midwife, Katie Hamilton of Mama Nurture Birth. She is now filling up her birth calendar for the upcoming year as a licensed midwife in California.
